ESG project of 700 solar power installations in the doldrums

ESG or the famed Energy Saving Group has given up the solar installation project after taking £350,000 in advance from 700 customers. ESG had initially demanded a deposit of £500 per installation from the customers that were interested in getting the PV installed. ESG was administering the project of renting roofs for the solar installations and EST receive the Feed-in Tariff charges that were generated from the customer’s installations and the customer utilized the generated electricity. Money Mail reported that even after paying the deposits in advance, dozens of consumers had been waiting for the solar power installations. Mr. and Mrs. Conyers from Norwich talked about the long wait that had extended to over a year to get the installations completed. Shirley said: “In the beginning it was four months and then it was extended to six weeks. ESG was constantly making excuses about not installing the solar panels. It has been hard on us as we were investing for savings in the long run. Now out money is blocked and there is no saving in the end.” On the ESG website, the company statement reads as a clarification on the sudden cancellation of the project. It states: “As one of the installer company has now modified the criteria of solar PV subsidy, the selection on who qualifies on the rebate and who does not has led to a few delays and many of the orders have been cancelled.” “About 700 customers faced cancellation after deposits were paid in advance. 500 of those have already got the refunds. However, the company has assured the customers that all refunds will be given within a short period.” In September, BBC Watchdog program had mentioned ESG as a bad business practice company and quick on the heels of the news, the company declared the project null and void.
