Over the past 3 years we have gained substantial feedback from owners of static holiday caravans on uk parks. We have completed a list of some of the tips and suggestions we received to help those considering ownership for the first time. Such feedback from real owners is invaluable and can help you see past the sales pitch.

We have broken these tips into two separate categories, lifestyle tips & practical hints..

Lifestyle Tips

• Take your time and make sure it’s the right site for you
• Be friendly, you can learn a lot from other owners and make some great friends.
• Make sure you use it, lots of people don’t and it’s a big investment.
• If you find a park you like it’s worth waiting for a pitch, ask about waiting lists.
• Site fees are the main long term cost, make sure you can afford them.
• Children love caravans!!!
• If you want to use your van regularly don’t buy more than 1.5 hours away from your home.
• Consider joint ownership with friends and family.
• Buy the biggest caravan you can afford, its surprising how many friends you get when you own a static caravan.
• Stay at the Holiday Park before you buy to really get to know it.
• Some parks have broadband, great if you have a teenager addicted to msn messenger. Many mobile phone companies now offer cheap mobile broad band.
• Owning a static caravan really gets us away from the stress of life.
• Agree your budget and try not to be lured by luxury caravans (not easy)
• Ownership is about lifestyle not making money.
• If you have children good indoor facilities really help, it rains a lot!!!!
• Great investment if you have grandchildren, no packing just go.
• If you rent your van to subsidise cost you can’t be too precious about your pride and joy.

Practical Hints

• Keep a stock of non perishable food, pot noodles and tins tea and coffee, remember site shops are not cheap.
• Have a ‘no shoes’ policy in your static caravans, otherwise you never stop cleaning.
• Always winterise you caravan, it’s a good investment in time.
• Consider getting a plastic storage box that are now widely available from garden centres, it’s like a mini garage for you holiday home.
