Static Caravan Insurance Tips & Hints
Once you have purchased your static caravan holiday home you will need to arrange insurance cover to protect your investment.
Craig Thompson of Leisuredays insurance has written the following article which is designed to help you with this process:
When comparing insurers try to make sure you are achieving ''like for like'' quotations, especially with reference to cover limits and excess values. It’s very difficult to state an average premium. Your actual premium will largely depend on the purchase price of your caravan and the value of its equipment. Premiums for lower value and older units can start at less than £100. You need to ensure that the value of the static caravan holiday home and its equipment is fully covered by your chosen policy. Specialist insurance companies will often give the option of ‘New for Old’ cover – this means your static caravan holiday home will be replaced with a new unit if it is damaged beyond economic repair. Often policies will offer ‘New for Old’ cover for units up to 5 years old. Leisuredays offer ‘New for Old’ cover for units up to 15 years old. For ‘New for Old’ cover to apply however, you must insure your static caravan holiday home at how much it would cost to replace it with a brand new equivalent unit. This obviously makes ‘New for Old’ cover on an older caravan more expensive than insuring on a current market value basis.
Also static caravan holiday home insurance policies cover the likes of accidental damage, debris removal and resiting costs, emergency repair costs, replacement locks following theft or loss of keys, as well as emergency accommodation costs should your holiday home become inhabitable.
Be aware that different policies will have different standard excess levels – the excess of course is the amount you will have to pay in the event of a claim. Indeed many will allow you to increase your excess in exchange for a premium saving.
