Holiday Park Grading Scheme

Holidaymakers can now reach for the stars in order to find their ideal park - because most UK parks now have an official star-rating based on the quality of the facilities they provide for guests. These star accolades are an assurance that your chosen park has been graded by tourist board inspectors on all the most important features of an enjoyable and memorable stay.

A single star grading means that the park has earned pass-marks in up to sixty different areas, whilst the top five-star rating denotes excellence of the highest order.

All types of Holiday Park come under the scheme. They range from small farm-based parks where you can stay with your touring caravan or tent - right up to major holiday park centres which provide luxury caravan holiday homes and lodges to hire and for sale.
No matter what type of park you choose, your holiday satisfaction will depend upon the overall standard of what's on offer.

The official grading scheme carried out by tourist boards in England, Wales and Scotland is so important. Its purpose is to assess parks on the quality of what they provide, and to award stars according to the standards that are being maintained.

In other words, the number of stars received by a park is a guide to its level of excellence. Parks can't miss out on stars by not having facilities such as swimming pools - but what they do offer customers must be of the very highest standard in order to receive the top grading.

There are five categories under the new scheme:

Five Star

At this the highest possible grading, parks are judged to be meeting exceptional quality standards. They go beyond the norm in terms of quality provision. They exceed the highest standards of the industry. Expect to be surprised by what you find: pristine conditions, thoughtful and sympathetic landscaping and immaculate standards of cleanliness the crème-de-la crème.

Four Star

Expect Excellent Quality on parks that have earned this grading. They rank amongst the industry's best. This award is only available to parks with careful attention to detail in the provision of all services and facilities and of course, excellent standards of cleanliness are required in all areas of the operation.

Three Star

Very Good parks fall within this category - three star parks represent the industry standard. Rely on this grading to signpost solid quality across all park facilities and services.

Two/One Star

Good and Acceptable to achieve these grades, even the smallest detail comes under close scrutiny and must meet strict Tourist Board criteria. In particular, they must achieve or exceed the strict cleanliness provisions of the scheme.
