Static Caravan Insurance Tips & Hints

Once you have purchased your static caravan holiday home you will need to arrange insurance cover to protect your investment.

This article is designed to help you with this process based on real feedback from My Holiday Caravan users.

Although very few owners actually have to make a claim, it is very reckless not to have appropriate insurance cover for a holiday home and for most owners the peace of mind alone is worth the insurance premium cost. Caravan insurance is now sold by a large number of UK companies via the Internet or phone allowing you to easily compare prices and shop around for the best quotation. Many of our users have reported that dedicated caravan insurance companies can offer enhanced cover and excellent customer service as a result of their specialist knowledge.

When comparing insurers try to make sure you are achieving ''like for like'' quotations, especially with reference to cover limits and excess values. Your actual policy cost will depend on the purchase price of your caravan and the value of its contents, but an average cost for a caravan holiday home would be around £250.00.

You need to ensure that the value of the static caravan and its contents is fully covered by your chosen policy. Most major insurance companies will cover against fire, theft, storm, flood and vandalism damage, however you need to read the policy documents very carefully. Ensure that you give accurate information at all times ensure that all valuations are correct to prevent issues should you need to make a claim. You should also check that you are covered for accidental damage, especially if you have children, and that you have ''new for old cover'' which will allow you to claim for the true replacement value of the caravan and contents.

If you intend to sub let you static caravan you will need to advise your insurance company and check the policy covers this appropriately.

Check list

  • Get more than one quote
  • Check like for like quotes
  • Give accurate information
  • Consider specialist insurance companies
  • Ensure you know the value of your caravan and contents
  • Always read the policy details
  • Be aware of excesses (amount you have to pay in the event of a claim)
