Choosing a location.
When buying a traditional property we are always being told to consider location, location, location. Buying a static holiday caravan is no different.
As a result, the majority of people buying a static holiday caravan consider the park and its location, before looking at a specific caravan.
Your choice of location will depend greatly on your own individual agenda and reason for purchase. Those who wish to take frequent short breaks will often buy with in a 1 hour travelling time of their home. In contrast people who plan to take extended holidays (e.g. a 3 week summer holiday break) may well look further a field as travelling time becomes less consequential. Some of our users have also commented that if you buy to close to home it can take away from the feeling of ‘escape’.
Other buyers choose to purchase for a specific reason such as proximity to friends and family and so it is not uncommon for a family to buy holiday caravan 100’s of miles from there home. We recently spoke to a family in Scotland who have purchased a static caravan holiday home on the Isle of Wight as they have family based there and attend the Cowes Week sailing festival every year and wanted guaranteed accommodation.
Based on our experience the average buyer normally purchases within 2 hours of their home location. Recently, the rise in fuel costs has become another factor to consider for potential buyers.
A customer’s budget will have a major influence on the location that they choose to purchase. For example, parks in Essex may well offer static caravan holiday homes from as little as £10,000, however the entry level costs for a region such as the Lake District could be £30,000 plus. Unfortunately, as with the housing market, costs will always increase based on the desirability of the region.
